What are Kegel Exercises? Who should do these? What are the benefits of these exercises?

Exercises to strengthen the muscles in the pelvic region are known as ‘Kegel exercises’. Due to this, the vagina is also made tight. Ligaments in the mother’s pelvic area loosen during pregnancy to allow the baby’s head to come out during delivery. Progesterone and relaxin hormones contribute to this. Also the collagen present in that area is also broken down and helps in the birth process. Kegel exercises help to restore all these after delivery.

When we hold urine we have to hold it tight and release it again. If you do this, it’s Kegel exercise. Sitting, standing, working… this can be done any number of times. This exercise is also very useful to prevent the uterus from slipping after delivery. It can be started from fifteen days after delivery. During menopause, the level of estrogen hormone decreases and the muscles and ligaments in the pelvic area become loose. There is a possibility of uterine prolapse. So these exercises can be done even when the pimples stop. These are also safe.
