Can you undergo surgery to lose weight?

Women some of them are over weight and suffer from obesity, generally  attempts to lose excess weight are failing. Moreover, their high blood pressure and diabetes are if not being controlled with medication. Ultimately, they want to lose weight with bariatric surgery.

But is it mandatory to go under bariatric surgery?

The answer is – Not everyone who presents with obesity can go straight to bariatric surgery. First, the doctors explain the obesity treatment methods by explaining the medical meaning of the term obesity to the patient. A diet plan is suggested for this first. Also ‘fat scan’ is done to know how much fat is in the body. Following that, the patient calculates the calories appropriate for his body mass index and prescribes a suitable diet.

Who needs it?

Doctors recommend bariatric surgery for people with BMI (Body Mass Index) above 40. Superobese with a BMI greater than 40, super-superobese with a BMI greater than 40, and morbidly obese patients. But 40 BMI is determined by the body type of the American people. So it is not correct to follow this calculation globally. Especially in people of Asian countries, even if BMI is 27-28, obesity should be considered. All of them choose seven types of bariatric surgery based on their health concerns. Bariatric surgery is also mandatory when there is a BMI below this and the metabolic disorders cannot be controlled with medication and are at risk of becoming fatal. This surgery improves the functioning of the endocrine system. With that, problems like sugar, blood pressure, thyroid will be fixed and health will be improved. In your case bariatric surgery can be resorted to as your health problems are not being controlled by medication.

There are disadvantages too

Like all surgeries, bariatric surgery has both pros and cons. That is…

Digestive tract stretches: Digestive system is elastic. Even if half of the digestive tract is removed by sleeve gastrectomy, it will stretch little by little and take a full shape within 8 to 10 years. So this surgery is not suitable for long-term non-obesity seekers.

Infection: In sleeve gastrectomy, there are chances of food leaking into the body from between the clips applied to the cut stomach. With that, there is a possibility of a serious problem called septicemia.

Bleeding: Bleeding from the clips may occur internally after sleeve gastrectomy surgery. If this symptom is detected within three or four days after surgery, it is easy to correct. Any delay beyond that can be fatal.

Nutrient deficiency: Gastric bypass causes food to be directly excreted resulting in nutrient deficiency. Lifelong vitamin and mineral supplements are required to correct this condition.

Food or water: In gastric banding, the stomach becomes a small bag so that there is no room for water in the stomach after eating. If you drink water immediately after eating, there are more chances of vomiting. So drink water shortly after eating food.
