During pregnancy, people used to store water in plastic containers and consume it. Later, concerns arose about the safety of using plastic containers. Nowadays, we are using plastic extensively. We store water in plastic bottles and use plastic containers for various purposes at home. We refrigerate food items in plastic containers and even drink beverages stored in them. Some experts advise against consuming water and drinks from plastic containers due to the potential health risks associated with bisphenol A (BPA), a chemical present in certain plastics.

Research conducted by the National Institute of Nutrition (NIN) in Hyderabad has shed light on the health effects of plastic usage during pregnancy. It has shown that plastic exposure during pregnancy can lead to various health issues, including fertility problems in both men and women. Specifically, the study found that BPA, a chemical commonly found in plastics, can disrupt normal hormone levels and potentially affect the fertility of individuals.

Furthermore, researchers have cautioned against the use of plastic containers for storing food items, as chemicals present in plastics, such as carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and chlorine, can leach into the food. This can pose health risks to humans. Microplastic particles from plastic water bottles have also been found to enter the human body, potentially causing health problems.

It is essential for pregnant individuals to be cautious about the potential effects of plastic exposure. The study emphasizes the importance of adopting a lifestyle that reduces exposure to plastics during pregnancy and beyond. Proper dietary choices and avoiding the use of plastics for food storage and consumption can help mitigate potential health risks associated with plastic exposure during pregnancy
